[Kenya] Safaricom kicks off fibre to home regional roll out plan

Safaricom has kicked off its Fiber to Home Regional Roll out Plan that will see an increased number of customers accessing fast internet speeds from the comfort of their homes.

The Regional Roll Out er en del av en strategi for å øke antall kunder som kan få tilgang til fast, pålitelig og ubegrenset internett.

Safaricom currently has 95,000 homes connected to its fiber infrastructure. "Customers insights reveal that access to reliable and convenient internet in the home has become increasingly critical, and this presents a huge opportunity. Our plan is to ensure that every customer that needs fiber connectivity at their homes across the country can access it affordably and at zero installation cost, "said Steve Okeyo Director - Regional Sales And Operations, Safaricom.

Customers will have a choice of different Fibre to Home internet packages -- starting from as low as Kshs2,500 per month with speeds of 5Mbps to Kshs9,999 at 40Mbps per month.

The first phase of the Safaricom Fibre to Home will start with Kitengela town and its environs, targeting 14,000 homes with a plan to reach 40% penetration within the next three months.

Other towns that are targeted in this phase include Athi River, Buruburu, Ngong Road, Runda, Ruaka and Karen.

The rollout of Safaricom Home Fibre is in line with Safaricom’s spirit of Transforming Lives in Kenya by making homes more fun and great for work and play. Once customers register for the service, they will be given a router and access to credentials that will enable them to have both Wireless and LAN access, with no installation charges.
