Johnny Andersen Managing Director Kenya Airports Authority

Johnny Andersen Kenya Airports Authority MDKenya Airports Authority has appointed Johnny Andersen as its new Managing Director after a competitive recruitment process that was overseen by PriceWaterHouse Coopers.  

Mr. Andersen a Norwegian has been acting as the Director of National Airports at Avinor AS, a state-owned firm that manages six airports in Norway. He boasts of 21 years’ experience managing airports in Norway, Denmark and Latvia.

He previously served as Vice President and Senior Vice President for Ground Operations at AirBaltic in Latvia. He was also the Director for Ground Handling Sales at Widroes Flyveselskap AS in Norway.

He holds a Master of Science degree in Air Transport Management from Cranfield University in the UK and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Logistics from BI Norwegian School of Management in Norway. He also studied Chinese Business, Trade and Commerce at Fundan University in China; as well as Aviation Law at CAE Inc in The Netherlands.

“Andersen has wide knowledge and experience in the aviation industry and specifically running airport hubs across the world. His qualifications and experience will play a significant role in steering the authority to greater heights He is a good fit for KAA,” KAA chairman Julius Karangi told the media.

The hunt for the new Managing Director started after KAA fired three senior managers including the then Managing Director Lucy Mbugua, General Manager of Finance John Thumb and the acting airport Engineer Christopher Warutere over the Passenger Transfer service tender at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Scam.
