[Ghana] Project Managers Without Borders launch initiative to tackle Accra Flooding

Project Managers Without Borders and the Ghana branch of Project Management Institute are launching a major effort to tackle the lingering floods in the Greater Accra Region by launching the Accra Flooding Initiative program. This press release covers details of the program, as well as a high-level tentative timeline.

The Accra Flooding Initiative is an ambitious program to create a Master Action Plan to tackle the floods that have caused damage to property and life itself over the years. Additionally, it has an increasingly negative impact on the economical life of the Greater Accra Region in general and the City of Accra in particular.

The program is set-up to involve many international groups of experts to leverage knowledge of other countries that have experienced and solved similar flood-related challenges.

The program consists of the following activities:

  • Research on past and current initiatives and the causes and possible remedies of past floods in Accra.

  • A stakeholder-identification and stakeholder-analysis workshop with the help of a 60-people strong delegation of the PMI-Ghana chapter stakeholders protocol aimed at identifying roles and responsibilities of key personnel.

  • Several workshops with the help of international project management [J1] delegations and international engineering experts to capture possible remedies for the known Accra Flood problems. Workshops are now in the planning stages, including London, Brussels, Utrecht, Athens.

  • The compilation of a Master Action Plan detailing the main causes of the floods in Accra and a remediation plan.

  • Delivery of a Master Action Plan to the local authorities[J2] in Ghana and other stakeholders.

These activities are currently being planned, carried out, and are expected to be completed by mid-2017.
