[Ghana] MTN Appoints Two Executives To Drive Marketing And Mobile Financial Services

Ghana’s leading telecommunications service provider, MTN Ghana, has announced the appointments of Asher Khan as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and Eli Hini as  General Manager, Mobile Financial Services (MFS). 

Eli Hini is a Chartered Marketer with over 17 years’ experience serving in various leadership positions in MTN Ghana, Unilever Ghana Limited and Coca-Cola Bottling Company Limited. Prior to his appointment as General Manager for MFS, he was the Commercial Senior Manager for MTN Mobile Money, a role he held from August 2008. He has been instrumental in setting up Mobile Money in Ghana and growing the subscriber base, transaction volumes and value. He also led the MTN Ghana team to receive ISO certification in 2016. With his new appointment Eli Hini is expected to drive strategy, business development, innovation and relevant operations of MTN’s Mobile Money business.

MTN’s Mobile Financial Services subsidiary was created to meet regulatory requirements and is MTN’s legal entity responsible for meeting the growing demand for mobile financial services in Ghana.

Eli Hini holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a postgraduate qualification from GIMPA.

Asher Yaqub Khan is an accomplished and seasoned senior marketing professional with 19 years’ experience in the telecommunications and IT industry in Asia. He brings impressive breadth and depth of commercial experience including the new areas of Digital, Large Data and Financial Inclusion, and will play a key role in the next frontier of delivering MTN’s digital strategy and vision.

Asher has a strong track record of delivering change businesses and has the strategic vision, commercial experience and leadership skills essential to drive MTN’s business forward and improve earnings. Prior to his appointment at MTN Ghana, Asher held various management positions in the fields of Marketing and Sales and Distribution. He has served as Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Ufone in Pakistan and Orascom Telecom in Bangladesh respectively.  He also served on the Board of Ubank, a subsidiary of Ufone with a microfinance mandate.

Mr. Khan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Bosphorus University, Turkey and an MBA degree from Lahore University of Management and Sciences (LUMS).

Announcing the appointments, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN, Mr. Ebenezer Asante, expressed his confidence that the wealth of experience Eli Hini and Asher Khan bring to MTN Ghana will significantly accelerate the achievement of the Company’s digital agenda.

MTN leads the telecommunications market in the delivery of Voice, Data and Mobile Money services. The organization was recently recognized as Telecom Operator of the Year, Best Telecom Business of the Year (MTN Business), Best Customer Service of the Year, Customer Service Team of the Year and Mobile Money Service of the Year at the recent Ghana Information Technology and Telecom Awards (GITTA) organized by InstinctWave.
