[Ethiopia] M BIRR partners with Total allowing customers pay for fuel via mobile money

Mobile money provider M-BIRR has partnered Total Ethiopia to give customers a platform to pay  for fuel, lubricants and even goods through their mobile system. The service is to be rolled out across 15 Total stations in the country.

The deal also enables users to register at M-BIRR, deposit and withdraw cash, and pay for their utility bills at Total petrol stations using an Electronic wallet card.

Furthermore, Total Ethiopia has also implemented a Total mobile service application, which helps its customers to notify the distance and phone number of their nearest station.

Total started to provide services in Ethiopia in 1950. It has 173 retail service stations across the country, which enable the company to sell 700 million litres of fuel annually. Currently, Total has 100,000 employees, out of which 4,000 are in Ethiopia.

Total started offering mobile payment services in Kenya and Uganda in 2013 and 2014, respectively. Internationally, Total was founded 92 years ago in France by Ernest Mercier, a French industrialist.
