Emirates Renews its Support to Mauritius

Emirates has renewed its support to Mauritius by extending a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which outlines joint activities to promote the island destination.

The agreement was signed today by Orhan Abbas, Emirates’ Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Latin America, Central and Southern Africa and Dr. Karl Mootoosamy, Director, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM).

“Our relationship with Mauritius spans over more than a decade and has proved extremely successful. The fact that we operate a double-daily A380 service to the paradise island demonstrates what we have achieved together. The vision and support of the Ministry of Tourism and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority have been instrumental in the formidable success of this partnership”, said Orhan Abbas on signing the agreement.

“We are very pleased to renew our partnership with Emirates, which is a key player in our diversification strategy, and receiving the support of a global player in this endeavour is very important to us. We have every reason to believe that this partnership will continue to be fruitful to both parties”, said Dr. Karl Mootoosamy.

In 2014, over 1 million tourists visited Mauritius; the destination’s main markets being France, Reunion, United Kingdom, South Africa, China, Germany and India.

Emirates started operations to Mauritius in September 2002 with three weekly flights. The daily A380 service was launched in December 2013 whereas the double-daily service was introduced in October 2014, following a strong demand for Emirates’ flagship aircraft on this route.
