Emirates Launches Second Daily A380 Service to Mauritius

Offering an additional capacity of 1890 seats per week, the second A380 service replaces the existing Boeing 777 operation. It will have a capacity of 489 passengers including 14 luxurious First Class Private Suites, 76 lie-flat beds in Business Class and 399 spacious seats in Economy Class.

“We are pleased that our decision to introduce the second A380 service has been welcomed by the local tourism industry. Since the start of its operations to Mauritius, Emirates has engaged in the marketing of the destination, throughout our network and, very often, jointly with the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority. Today, these efforts are bearing fruit”, said Orhan Abbas, Emirates Senior Vice-President, Commercial Operations, Latin America, Central and Southern Africa.

“Emirates is renowned for leading market trends. Personal entertainment systems in all seats, as well as private first-class suites, are among its many notable firsts. These are very popular on the route to Mauritius. We are confident that the decision to introduce the second A380 on the Mauritius route will be very popular”, he added.

“We welcome the second A380 daily flight which will reinforce our market diversification strategy, and we can only be very optimistic that it will accelerate the momentum in tourist arrivals and help achieve a forceful ambition for the tourism industry”, said Dr Karl Mootoosamy, Director of Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority.

Since the launch of the A380 service to the island on 16th December 2013, more than 251,000 persons have travelled on the iconic double decker between Dubai and Mauritius. Services between Dubai and Mauritius and vice versa is operated in codeshare with Emirates’ long-time partner Air Mauritius.

With 53 A380s currently in its fleet, Emirates is the largest operator of the double-decker aircraft, operating services from Dubai to over 30 destinations worldwide. The airline’s A380 operations are supported by more than 3,000 dedicated cabin crew

Emirates operates to Mauritius since September 2002 and employs 286 Mauritians globally, including more than 100 cabin crew and a Boeing 777 pilot.
