[Algeria] Tassili Airlines mulls expansion to African markets

The Algerian public company Tassili Airlines (TAL) plans to embark on the African market according to its CEO Belkacem Harchaoui.

"We are working to promote Tassili Airlines to a regional company, by investing in the African market," said Harchaoui, announcing the inauguration of an Algiers-Tindouf-Nouakchott flight during the first half of 2017.

This expansion project is encouraged by the public authorities’ willingness to promote the national production and boost exports towards Africa, which offers genuine opportunities, he said.

Certainly, the airline will continue to focus on Europe, for which "demand is more important," the official explained.

Late November 2016, the Airline TAL had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Logitrans (Group SNTR) on cargo freight in order to reinforce its presence in the African market as TAL is seeking to have "bigger visibility" and give "another option" for passengers, the Airline top official said.

Speaking about training, Harchaoui said that the Airline allocates a "quite significant" budget.

"Training of all the air and ground crews is a priority for us, because the company ambitions to become a world-class airline,” he said.

Concerning the fleet of aircraft possessed by this public airline, Harchaoui said that 12 aircraft are "aging," hence the need to reinforce this fleet to open new routes in the transportation of oil and passengers, recalling the call to tender launched for the purchase of 4 155-seat aircraft and one 70-seat plane.

Another call to tender was also launched for the chartering of two aircraft destined to medical transport of oil companies’ personnel and the populations of Hassi-Messaoud and Adrar regions.
