[Algeria] Japanese car makers mull setting up auto and truck manufacturing plants
Algeria is positioning itself as the North African manufacturing hub with three Japanese car makers having already expressed interest to set up auto and truck manufacturing plants. Two of them have already taken the steps for the execution of their projects according to Japan’s ambassador to Algeria Masaya Fujiwara.
“Japan is much interested in the investment in Algeria in different areas. There are good signs as we already have car manufacturers like Nissan and Suzuki who have projects of vehicle assembly plants in Algeria and are only waiting for the green light of the Algerian authorities to execute them,” said Fujiwara.
The ambassador made a statement at the joint press conference with the head of the Algerian-Japanese Mustapha Mekideche following the second meeting of this club to which about thirty businessmen and representatives of Algerian economic institutions took part alongside their Japanese counterparts
Hoping that these projects could be executed “as soon as possible,” the ambassador also underlined the Japanese car maker Toyota is also interested in the building of an assembly plant in Algeria through its subsidiary Hino Motors, specialized in the manufacturing of trucks and buses.
In addition to their contribution to the creation of wealth and jobs, these projects will allow, according to him, the two sides to seize “the opportunities existing in different fields to develop our economic relations.”
