[Algeria] Government approves four phosphate processing projects to spur economic growth

Four phosphate processing projects have been recently approved by the government as part of encouraging processing industry, according to the Minister of Industry and Mines Abdessalem Bouchouareb.

In a statement to the press Bouchouareb reiterated that petrochemistry has a very important place in the national economic policy, adding that the recent meeting of the government "approved four petrochemistry projects proposed by the sectors of Energy and Industry and Mines."

The four phosphate processing projects include two projects in Souk Ahras, one in Tebessa and one in Skikda.

"There is another project to transform ammonia into melamine in Annaba, a resin widely used in the aeronautics sector," the minister added.

As regards the energy sector, Abdessalem Bouchouareb indicated the government decided not to sell crude hydrocarbons anymore but to process them.

"In this regard, these four projects will be implemented with a view to further developing the petrochemical industry," said Bouchouareb, adding that these projects are integrated following a strategy that the government has already outlined in its 2014-2019 five-year plan to boost national production.
